Updated COVID-19 Procedures


The Municipal Court sessions will now be conducted virtually/remotely via the Zoom Platform to minimize exposure to COVID-19. When contacting the Municipal Court by fax, email, regular mail or voicemail provide the following information. 

You must provide the following information:
  • Full Name
  • Email Address
  • Summons, Ticket, or Complaint Number
  • Cell phone Number along with the provider
The Court will mail a notice for your virtual court appearance that will have a neon sticker on the front of the notice with the Zoom login information, ID, and password.

The Plainfield Municipal Court is part of a dispute resolution program with www.NJMCdirect.com. It allows litigants who have a ticket in the City of Plainfield to fight the ticket online instead of going to court or appearing virtually via Zoom.

The public can access the Online Municipal Case Resolution system through www.NJMCdirect.com after entering a valid ticket number.  
The ticket must have one of the 37 eligible offense codes.

  • When the user clicks the dispute case button, will be prompted to register and create an account. 
  • After the registration process, they will be able to proceed with disputing the case.

The Municipal Court has jurisdiction over cases within their territorial jurisdiction, including violations of a municipal ordinance, violations of a motor vehicle and traffic laws, disorderly person’s offenses, petty disorderly person’s offenses, and other non-indictable offenses, except where exclusive jurisdiction is given to the Superior Court. Also included within this jurisdiction are violations of fish and game laws and weights and measures.

Payment Options

To address fees associated with certain violations, residents may utilize an online payment option made available by the State of New Jersey. This service can be found at www.njmcdirect.com. Directions for payments and some frequently asked questions are also available.

Customers may also make payments at the Municipal Court Building. The violations payment window is open to the public from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday. If you are unable to make a payment at the violation window and do not wish to use regular mail, you are welcome to drop off a payment, in the form of a check or money order, in the drop box located in the lobby of the Police Department.

Credit card payments can be made online or at the violation's payment window. Credit Card payments cannot be made over the phone.

Payments for code enforcement, housing violations, and criminal cases on a payment plan can be made online.

Security

All persons entering the Municipal Court will be required to pass through a metal detector. Any person(s) with medical conditions that would be affected by the metal detector are asked to enter through the Plainfield Police Station entrance on East Fourth Street.
