WHAT DOES ENDEMIC MEAN?
First, the coronavirus was an epidemic, then it became a pandemic, and now we hear from public health experts that it is transitioning into an endemic. As an endemic, it means COVID will always be part of our lives in some form, very similar to how the Spanish flu of 1918 transformed over time into the common influenza (flu) of today.
COVID will eventually become endemic; it does not mean we should give up trying to contain the virus and increasing vaccination rates. Catching COVID may mean a few days of discomfort and then bouncing back to normal until we do it all again the following year, like many FLU cases.
According to data compiled by the CDC, you are way more likely to get COVID if you are unvaccinated than if you are vaccinated. The more unvaccinated people we have, the more it will spread.
