The Rushmore Recreational Complex
The Rushmore Recreational Complex represents an investment in our young people. Residents utilized the previous facility for its soccer field, swimming pools, playground, basketball courts, and concession stand. The grass fields were heavily used, causing retardation of growth, which created a hazardous environment after rains. The main swimming pool needed renovations, and the kiddie pool area posed a danger to children.
The playground area had only one playset and a swing set, which was not adequate for the number of families utilizing the park. The basketball courts were beginning to crack and deteriorate due to excessive use and dire need of rehabilitation.
In response to these needs, the current project will provide a 380 ft x 230 ft synthetic turf combination soccer/football field. It will be fenced and have Sports field lighting. There will be ADA-compliant bleachers with a permanently mounted Press Box and a professional scoreboard. We'll make improvements to the parking lot with geotextile fabric underlay to avoid stone migration. And retard vegetative growth. It will include ADA-compliant accessible parking spaces.
The Basketball court improvements include milling and resurfacing, re-striping, and new poles and hoops. There will be a rubberized playground surface in the "free play" area – games such as hopscotch and foursquare and comfortable benches. The playset and swing will be multi-age and include musical features. We'll replace the kiddie pool with a "Splash Pad' which will be much safer for our younger children. The adult pool will be renovated.
Overall, the complex's aesthetic will be upgraded with new park benches, waste receptacles, picnic tables, landscaping improvements, and a decorative Entranceway arch.
