Taxes

The Assessor is responsible for establishing the value and fairly assessing all real property in the City of Plainfield. The responsibilities of the Assessor’s Office can be divided into two categories:  Administration and Appraisal.

Included in the Administration duties are: processing deeds; maintaining and updating property records; working in conjunction with the Planning Office to maintain the tax maps; and processing applications for exemptions and deductions which includes senior citizens, disabled persons, veterans, 100% disabled veterans and qualified exempt organizations.

Included in the Appraisal duties are: Defense of tax appeals; property inspections; calculation of value; sales analysis; and added assessments

Tax Collector

Property taxes are due quarterly:

  • February 1
  • May 1
  • August 1
  • November 1

The Office of the Tax Collector receives and collects current and/or delinquent municipal taxes as well as Special Improvement District Taxes. The Office is also responsible for mailing municipal tax bills, maintaining tax records and conducting annual tax sales.

Property Taxes can be paid in person, by mail, or paid online.

The Tax Collector’s office is open to the public from 9:00 – 4:30 pm each business day.
